After his book The Junction Boys was successfully adapted into the screen, American author Jim Dent will soon see another one of his novels grace the big screen. Just this year, Santa Rita Film Co. acquired the rights to a film adaptation of Dent’s Twelve Mighty Orphans: The Inspiring True Story of the Mighty Mites Who Ruled Texas Football.
Starring Luke Wilson, 12 Mighty Orphans follows the true-to-life story of a group of orphans from Fort Worth, Texas, who vie for state championship and their relationship with their coach, Rusty Russell.
Wilson will star as Coach Russell, a war veteran who grew up in an orphanage after his mother left home there. Determined to help other orphans live a life better than what he had, he accepts a job as a football coach to a group of young players from a Texas orphanage. He will be joined by Star Trek Into the Darkness’ Alice Eve. The film will be helmed by Ty Roberts.
To complete some scenes, casting directors of 12 Mighty Orphans are seeking two groups of twin girls, one being 9 and older, the other 6 and older. Applicants must be 6 to 13 years old to be considered.
