Will Robert Downey Jr. Still be Iron Man?

Marvel hasn’t made any official announcements yet for Iron Man 4. However, there are already rumors and speculations about the upcoming movie.

According to the most recent report, there will be a major casting switch in the upcoming installment, Iron Man 4. It says that a 13-year-old actor will be replacing Robert Downey Jr. In the report published on Movie Pilot, Ty Simpkins of Jurassic World will be replacing Downey. The website contemplates that maybe Tony Stark “will hand off the identity to him” or “maybe Marvel will just cast Simpkins as a younger Tony Stark.”

Simpkins isn’t really a newbie in the industry. He has appeared in lots of big films already. Aside from Iron Man 3, he was also part of Pride and Glory, Revolutionary Road, Insidious and Insidious: Chapter 2. He was best known for his performance in Iron Man 3, which earned him a nomination at the prestigious Saturn Awards.

It was in 2014, when the speculations about Robert Downey Jr. being replaced, started to make headlines. It was the time when the actor’s contract with Marvel Studio ended. Shortly, it was renewed for two more films, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.

Meanwhile, Gwyneth Paltrow has always been open to reprising her role as the love interest of Stark, Pepper Pots. Also, she would really understand if ever she gets a replacement in the succeeding films. She said, “I don’t know, I’d like to do it. But they might swap me out for an 18-year-old Pepper Pots or something.”

There are plenty of casting rumors making rounds all over the Internet at this time. But, if there isn’t any an official announcement or statement made by anyone associated with the studio, all of these will remain as speculations. However, if these reports are true, Simpkins will already be 18 by the time he takes the role of Downey.
