Stranger Things Season 2 was one of the biggest TV shows released in 2017. According to Symphony Technology Group, the first season of the Netflix show drew around 14.07 million viewers aged 18–49 in the United States alone. By the second season, the numbers instantly doubled thanks to clever marketing schemes and of course, the show’s fantastic cast. Many critics have even gone on to say that it surpassed its predecessor in terms of storytelling and production.
Those who have seen the show know that Stranger Things blends a delightful mix of sci-fi, tension, drama and ’80s nostalgia. In an interview with Steve Weintraub of Digital Spy, executive producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen dropped hints at where the show could be headed for Season 3.

While the Duffers may be tight-lipped about the details about the third season, Cohen told Digital Spy that famous twin brothers are heading to the writer’s room to start on the screenplay.

“Certain things came out of ‘people loved this and loved that,’ and the guys are very smart about giving the fans what they want and playing to the strengths of what played well, and letting that find its way into the season.”
Naturally, this included the widely popular online campaign “Justice for Barb.” In Season 2, the character Nancy Wheeler does indeed seek justice for her dead friend in an incredibly well-executed story line.
Of course, the Duffers will have to deal with their young cast members as well. Front-runners like Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Materazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Season 2 newbie Sadie Sink are growing up fast. Rest assured, the kids will be dealing with more coming-of-age drama in the next season.
“Let’s not embarrass ourselves or the audience by pretending these are kids,” Levy said, “They’re teenagers now.” Because of that, Season 3 will most likely take place a year after the events of the Season 2 finale, much like Season 2 itself did.
Cohen added, “The passing of time in these kids’ lives, and everyone’s inner community is part of the charm of the show, and [The Duffers] will continue to lean into that.”
