The Wife-Carrying World Championships may be the most stressful, heart-wrenching and painstaking event that puts every marriage to a test, but, at the end of the day, the reward is sweet and worth it. The winner brings home beer equivalent to his wife’s total weight. The annual Wife Carrying World Championships, or locally known as Eukonkanto, is an annual event in Finland, where male competitors contend with other contestants while carrying their female teammate on their backs. The objective of the sport is for the males to carry the females and get pass through an obstacle course in the fastest possible time. The original track involves a rough and rocky terrain with fences and river, but over the years, it has been altered to fit the current condition. Now, there are fences, rocks and a pool that is about a meter deep. There are rules that should be followed in the event. Females should weigh at least 49 kilograms to qualify. Anyone who is lighter than the mentioned weight will be asked to carry a rucksack in order to reach the minimum weight. In case male participants drop their female teammate, they will be penalized 15 seconds. Also, there is a catch. Contestants must not carry their own wives.
