Forbes’ Highest Earning Actors at the 2014’s Global Box Office

As is their custom every year, Forbes recently came out with a list of the highest earning actors at the global box office. They tabulated the numbers released on Box Office Mojo for every actor that starred in all movies of 2014 and then ranked all of them according to their earnings. Here is the list:


10. Hugh Jackman, $746 million

Hugh Jackman is an Australian actor and producer, who starred in a number of films. He is best known for his recurring role as Wolverine in the X-Men film series. This year, X-Men: Days of Future Past was Jackman’s only movie. Next year, he will star in Pan, a film about Neverland at the time Peter Pan arrived.


9. Michael Fassbender, $746 million

The German-born actor and producer, Michael Fassbender is noted for his roles in the superhero films X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past as the young Magneto. He also starred in other films, including Prometheus and 12 Years a Slave.


8. James McAvoy, $747 million

The Scottish actor, James McAvoy, made TV appearances since 1995. From then on, he continued to make TV appearances until the late 2000s. In 2003, he appeared in the film The Last King of Scotland, which garnered him some award nominations. However, it was his role as Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, that catapulted his name into mainstream Hollywood.


7. Angelina Jolie, $758 million

Angelina Jolie is an American filmmaker and actress, who won two Screen Actors Guild Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. She was also named as the highest paid actress by Forbes in 2009, 2011 and 2013. The biggest hit of her career this year was Maleficent, a new take on the Sleeping Beauty tale.


6. Emma Stone, $764 million

Emma Stone is an American actress, who debuted in the feature film, Superbad. Since then, Stone has made appearances in other hit movies, such as The House Bunny, Paper Man and Zombieland. In 2014, she reprised her role as Gwen Stacy in the film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. She even topped her Spider-Man co-star because of her movies, Magic in the Moonlight and Birdman.


5. Chris Evans, $801 million

Chris Evans is best known for his superhero role Johnny Storm in the films, Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. He is also Steve Rogers or Captain America in the films, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He will be reprising this role in Avengers : Age of Ultron.


4. Mark Wahlberg, $1 billion

Mark Wahlberg, known as Marky Mark in his earlier years, rose to fame in 1991 as the frontman of the band Markky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Later on, he transitioned to acting and was known for his roles in the films Boogie Nights, Three Kings, Planet of the Apes and a lot more. His 2014 film Transformers: Age of Extinction became a huge hit, putting him on the 4th spot of Forbes’ 2014 list of Highest Grossing Actors at the Box Office.


3. Scarlett Johansson, $1.18 billion

Aside from being considered as one of Hollywood’s modern sex symbols, Scarlett Johansson reprised roles that garnered her acclaim and prominence. Among her films are The Horse Whisperer, Ghost World, A Good Woman, Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. This year, she co-starred in such big movies as Captain America, Lucy and Under the Skin.


2. Chris Pratt, $1.2 billion

Chris Pratt is an American actor, known for his television roles in shows including Everwood and Parks and Recreation. His film career started with a number of supporting roles in films, such as Bride Wars, Jennifer’s Body, What’s Your Number? and Wanted. In 2014, he achieved leading man status and starred in the blockbuster films The Lego Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy. Next year, he will star in Jurassic World.

In 2012, Jennifer Lawrence gained international fame for playing Katniss Everdeen in the successful The Hunger Games film franchise. It was a role that made the American actress the highest-grossing action heroine of all-time. Lawrence starred in two big blockbuster hits this year – X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. According to Forbes, the figure is expected to rise as her latest movie continues its theatrical run.

In the succeeding years, many of the people included in the list will continue to be big at the box office as they represent a generation of stars with serious acting prowess and undeniable charisma, but we still have to wait who of them will replicate their success.
