With the recent advancements in technology, people became more aware about dwarfism. However, this isn’t really a new medical condition. Here are 20 of the shortest people ever known in history.

Dylan Postl is the world’s shortest living professional wrestler that is signed with WWE. Other than wrestling, Postl starred in the reboot film, Leprechaun: Origins.

Lionel Giroux, also known as the “Little Beaver,” is the world’s shortest professional wrestler, with a height of 4’4”. At the age of 15, he already began his wrestling career for promoters in Quebec. The Canadian midget wrestler died on December 1995 due to a chronic lung disease called emphysema.

Known as the only “little person” to be nominated for the Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor, Michael Dunn suffered the medical condition called dwarfism, which explains his small height. He is best known for his recurring role on the TV series, Dr. Miguelito Loveless, where he played as a mad scientist who thought of wicked schemes and gadgetries.

Eddie Gaedel is the shortest player in the Major League Baseball. However, this was believed to be a publicity stunt since he only stood at the plate once. Gaedel was an American who suffered dwarfism. Prior to his appearance, he was hired by Mercury Records to become “Mercury Man.”

Henry Franklyn was a goaltender in the Canadian ice hockey team in the late 19th century. He is considered the second shortest athlete of all-time and possibly the smallest recorded person in the history of ice hockey.

The Rice Brothers is the world’s known shortest twins, until the untimely death of John Rice in 2005. John Rice and Greg Rice were identical twin dwarfs, who appeared in several web and TV commercials. Both became successful in their respective careers and were recognized as experts in their field in the United States. On November 5, 2005, John Rice broke his leg and suffered complications, which resulted to his death.

Weng Weng is a Filipino martial artist and actor to have played title roles. He is even listed in the Guiness World Records as the “Shortest Adult Actor in a Leading Role.” He starred in various films, such as D’ Wild Wild Weng, The Impossible Kid and For Y’ur Height Only.

Aditya Dev was a famous Indian body builder, dancer and entertainer, who suffered dwarfism. He became reported in the British press for shoulder pressing a custom made 2 kg. dumbbells, given his short stature. Though his act wasn’t published in the Guiness World Records book, he is still recognized as the “world’s smallest bodybuilder.”

Verne Troyer is an American stunt performer and actor, noted for his performance in the Austin Powers series as Mini-Me. Troyer also appeared in various TV series, including, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, The Girls Next Door, The Surreal Life and Through the Keyhole.

Ajay Kumar, otherwise known as Guiness Pakru or Undapakru, is a famous Malayalam comedy actor. He is recognized by Guiness Book of Records as the “Shortest Actor to Play a Character in a Full-Length Film.” He starred in the film Albutha Dweep as dwarf prince Gajendra of the kingdom Vamanapuri.

He Pingping was once noted as the shortest living man until his death in March 2010. According to his father, at birth, he was so small that he could fit in the hands of his parents. Later on, doctors diagnosed the cause to be osteogenesis imperfect, a disease that hinders normal bone growth and body height. At the age of 21, he died due to heart complications.

Nelson de la Rosa was once recognized as the world’s shortest actor. He played a minor role in a film entitled, The Island of Dr. Moreau, where he exchanged lines with Marlon Brando. It was believed that his role was the inspiration for the Austin Powers character, Mini-Me.

After the death of He Pingping, Edward Niño was named the shortest man. Eventually, he lost the title to Mafar on October 2010. Hernandez was actually born in Bogota, Colombia and appeared on a TV program, Lo show dei record.

Lin Yu-chih once held the title as the shortest man in the world, standing only 26.6 inches tall. He is a resident of Taipei, Taiwan, where he worked as an author and a social activist. In 2008, he appeared in a documentary entitled, The World’s Smallest Man and Me. Lin suffered osteogenesis imperfecta and later founded the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Association.

Khagendra Thapa Magar was once recognized as the world’s shortest man until 2011. He took the title from Edward Niño Hernandez when he turned 18. Magar is a resident of the Baglung District of Nepal and is locally known as the “Little Buddha.”

With his height of 26 inches, Istvan Toth claimed he should be recognized as the shortest man. However, Guiness World Records wasn’t able to verify this as he died in May 2011 at the age of 28.

In 2012, Junrey Balawing was recognized by Guiness World Records as the world’s shortest living man, measuring only 24 inches. In fact, it was during his 18th birthday celebration that the declaration was done. Though he was documented as the shortest living man, he didn’t hold the title of being the shortest man in history.

According to the Guiness Book of World Records, Gul Mohammed was the shortest adult human being of his time. On October 1, 1997, he died of respiratory complications due to heavy smoking. As of now, his record was broken by Chandra Bahadur Dangi of Nepal.

Chandra Bahadur Dangi holds the title as the shortest man in history, measuring only 21.5 inches. He took the title from Gul Mohammed, the shortest adult human. He lives in a remote village in Nepal, which is about 400 km away from the capital of the country.
